What we have built, how it was tested, and what to do if something here gets in your way.
Our commitment
This site is built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is a floor rather than a finish line, and where we fall short we would rather hear about it than not know.
What is built in
- Full keyboard operation. Every control, including the age gate, the mega menus, the search, the filters, the carousels and the basket, works without a mouse.
- Focus is visible and managed. A gold focus ring on everything interactive; dialogs trap focus while open and return it to whatever opened them.
- A skip link is the first thing in the tab order on every page.
- Semantic structure. One H1 per page, headings in order, real landmarks, and accessible names on every icon-only control.
- State is announced.
aria-pressed,aria-expandedandaria-currentthroughout, with live regions for result counts and basket changes. - Touch targets are at least 44px.
- Motion is optional.
prefers-reduced-motiondisables the entire animation system, including every carousel autoplay and the hero cross-fade. - Images are described. Descriptive alt text on product and editorial photography; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology rather than given empty noise.
Colour and contrast
Body text meets or exceeds 4.5:1 against its background, and large text and interface chrome meet 3:1. The champagne gold is used for emphasis, rules and small caps rather than for paragraph text, because at body size it would not carry enough contrast on cream.
Known limitations
- The catalogue is large. Filtering 2,300 products updates a live region with the new count, but a screen reader user paging through many results will find it long — we are working on a more concise summary.
- Product photography is supplied by producers and its alt text is generated from the product record rather than written per image. It is accurate but not descriptive of the composition.
